• So much myth exists about the investigation industry that it is hard to separate fact from fiction. We welcome inquires from prospective clients but we recognize that many users of the Internet are researching potential suppliers. To those of you who are in that category, we offer a few hints which you will find useful in your search:
• When you hear the term 'expert' - run !It usually means 'has some idea but not really qualified'
• No investigation agency is good at everything - ask what the agency specializes in. If they answer 'everything' - run !
• Ask for a bio. on BOTH the manager and the operative who will work on your matter. If you can't get that type of information, your potential supplier is hiding something.
• Some security guard agencies who profess to provide investigation services merely use a security guard in plain clothes to conduct the assignment. This means that the operative working on your behalf is not trained, skilled or capable. Beware !
• Be sure that the agency you select is going to conduct ALL components of the assignment using their own personnel. Some agencies subcontract out certain activities and this means YOU have lost control of the manner in which the assignment is being handled.
• Ask to see the agency code of ethics. If they do not have one (in writing) or if theirs does not match up to yours - run !
• DO NOT select a supplier based upon their hourly rare. This is extremely deceptive. An agency which quotes $25 per hour may take four times longer to complete the assignment than one quoting $50 per hour. The measurement tool should be results - not rates.
• Lastly - set a budget and demand that your supplier remain within that budget. Arrive at the figure together to ensure that it is realistic and demand that the agency commit to writing the fact that they will complete ALL the required steps within that budget. This is your protection against inflated invoices and wasted dollars.
